Inauguration of the Porcelain Medallions at the High Place of Cueille: A Moving Tribute to the Martyrs of Tulle

Tulle, Inauguration of the Porcelain Medallions, 80th Anniversary of the Events of 1944

In this significant year, the City of Tulle and the Committee of Martyrs are preparing to honor the memory of those who were tragically affected during the dark events of June 1944. The hanging of 99 resistance fighters and the tragic deportation of 101 hostages by the fanatical SS forces of the Das Reich division left an indelible mark on our community. To commemorate this sad anniversary, a solemn event will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, humanizing the Field of Martyrs of Cueille with the installation of 200 porcelain medallions.

It is an iconographic resurrection that reinforces the sanctification of places.
It is a tribute and individual recognition for each of our martyrs, linking the past and future generations, thus realizing the necessary transition between the time of mourning and that of history, of their history.

Following this ceremony, the Municipality gathered the families for a friendship drink in the Marie Laurent hall, where each person was also given a porcelain bird, an object created by the artists Matéo Clausse and Shuling Liu.

The Porcelain Medallions: A Symbol of Memory and Resilience

These medallions, created by renowned artist Christian Lebois from the company Ego Déco, represent much more than mere ornaments. Each will bear the image of a victim, engraved on porcelain, thus giving a face to the names etched in our collective memory. This initiative personalizes the remembrance of each martyr, strengthening the connection between the past and future generations.
